Orbis
Orbis review
Orbis is a tile-placement game where players become gods, vying to create the most prosperous universe. It's a fun and fast-paced game that has a lot of strategic depth despite its simple rules. I was really drawn to the vibrant artwork and the theme of creating your own universe, which is more than just a skin deep concept in this game.
I appreciate how quickly Orbis can be learned, but it has a lot of replayability as well, thanks to the different God tiles you can choose and the dynamic tile placement options. It's a bit of a brain burner trying to predict what tiles will be available and how to strategically place your own, especially as the game progresses. I found that the game really shines when played with 3-4 players, but it also works well with 2 players.
However, I do agree with some reviewers that the theme could be more deeply integrated into the gameplay. The game focuses more on resource management and strategic tile placement, which is perfectly fine, but I think it could have been more immersive.
Despite that, I still recommend Orbis, especially for those who enjoy lighter strategy games like Splendor or Suburbia. It's a great choice for game nights, and it's even fun to play solo. Just be warned, as some reviewers mentioned, you'll need to organize the components yourself – there's no insert included.
