Gingerbread House
Gingerbread House review
Gingerbread House is a delightful, quick-playing game that's perfect for family game nights or as a filler between heavier games. The theme of a witch building a gingerbread house and fending off greedy fairy tale creatures is charming and well-executed. The gameplay is simple to learn but offers interesting strategic choices. Players place domino-like tiles on a 3x3 grid, building up layers and scoring points for building tall structures, completing orders, and being the quickest to achieve certain conditions.
One of the things I love about this game is the way the theme is woven into the gameplay. Each tile represents a different type of gingerbread, and players need to strategically choose which ones to use to score the most points. The artwork is also very well done, adding to the overall charm of the game.
I've found that Gingerbread House plays best with 2-4 players, but it's also fun with just 2. It's a great choice for a light, strategic game that won't take up too much time. I highly recommend giving it a try!
While the bonus cards can add some strategic depth, I do agree with some reviewers that they come a little late in the game. However, this is a minor quibble, and the game is still very enjoyable without them.
I do have one caveat about the packaging. The box arrived slightly damaged, which was a bit disappointing. However, the game itself wasn't affected, and the damage wasn't severe enough to warrant a return.
Overall, Gingerbread House is a fun, light, and charming game that I highly recommend. It's perfect for families and gamers of all levels. While the packaging could be improved, the game itself is a winner.
