Cryptid review

Cryptid is a unique deduction game that's quickly become a favorite in our household. The core concept is simple: you and your fellow cryptozoologists are trying to uncover the location of a mysterious creature by piecing together clues. Each player holds one clue, and on your turn, you can try to gain more information from your opponents. The catch? You have to be careful not to reveal too much about your own clue, or your opponents might beat you to the discovery!

What I really love about Cryptid is its emphasis on strategic misdirection. You're constantly trying to decipher your opponents' clues while simultaneously trying to throw them off your own scent. It's a game of mind games and deduction that keeps you on your toes. The modular board and the hundreds of possible set-ups also ensure that no two games are ever the same. This adds a ton of replayability and keeps things fresh.

I do agree with some reviewers that the game can be a bit complex, especially for newer players. The multiple rules and possibilities can be overwhelming at first. Thankfully, the game offers two difficulty levels, so you can ease your way in. The game's components are well-made and visually appealing, although I do wish it came with more than one resealable bag for all the different pieces.

Overall, I highly recommend Cryptid to anyone who enjoys deduction games, puzzle-solving, and a healthy dose of mind games. It's a clever and engaging game that will keep you entertained for hours on end. Just be prepared to put your thinking cap on!
