The Hunger
The Hunger review
The Hunger is a fun, fast-paced deck-building game with a vampire theme. It's a race to get back to the castle before sunrise, but the more you hunt humans for victory points, the slower your deck becomes, making it harder to escape. It's a classic "push your luck" style game with a lot of strategy and tension. I really enjoy the artwork on the cards and the board, it's very visually appealing. The game itself is easy to learn and teach, and the turns are quick. However, I found the rulebook to be a bit confusing, especially for the setup. It would be helpful if they included a quick reference sheet for setup and turn order.
The game is similar to Clank!, but instead of building up a strong deck, you start with good cards and then need to balance adding cards to your deck that also make it worse. There's a lot of risk/reward involved, and it can be a bit challenging to make it back to the castle in time. I also agree with some reviewers that the goal of getting a rose and making it back in time doesn't seem worth it sometimes.
Despite this, I think The Hunger is a great game for anyone who enjoys deck building games. It's a fun, quick, and thematic game that I would recommend to any board game enthusiast.
