Bargain Basement Bathysphere review

I recently got my hands on Bargain Basement Bathysphere, a print-and-play game designed for the 2018 BGG solitaire contest. As a big fan of solo games and roll-and-writes, I was immediately intrigued by the premise.

The concept is simple: you're a deep-sea explorer with a (let's be honest, incredibly leaky) bathysphere, and you're tasked with exploring the depths of the ocean. The game uses a campaign-style format, meaning you play through a series of maps, each progressively more complex and challenging. The "no build" aspect was a huge draw for me. I just printed out the pages and was ready to dive right in.

The gameplay is very reminiscent of other roll-and-write games, relying heavily on dice rolls and strategic placement of your actions on the map. I found the mechanics to be engaging and the difficulty curve to be just right, progressively introducing new challenges and elements as you progress. The legacy elements were a nice touch, adding a sense of permanence and progression to the campaign.

Overall, I really enjoyed Bargain Basement Bathysphere. It's a fun and engaging game that's perfect for solo play. The campaign style keeps things fresh and interesting, and the legacy elements add a welcome layer of depth. If you're looking for a quick-playing solo game with a unique theme and a touch of depth, I highly recommend checking this one out.
