Aqualin
Aqualin review
Aqualin is a delightful two-player tile-laying game that's surprisingly deep for its simple rules. The goal is to create the largest groups of either matching colors or sea creatures, and the player with the most points at the end wins. It's a quick game that's easy to learn but takes a bit of strategy to master. I find myself wanting to play again after each game, trying to figure out how to outsmart my opponent.
The components are high quality, with sturdy tiles that have a nice weight to them. The artwork is beautiful, and the tiles feel great in hand. I also like the small size of the game; it's easy to take with you on the go.
Some reviewers have noted that the color player has an advantage, and I can see how that might be the case. The colors are distinct and easy to spot, while the creatures can be a bit harder to discern at times. However, I don't find this to be a major problem. It just adds another layer of strategy to the game.
Overall, Aqualin is a fun, engaging, and strategic game that's perfect for two players. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys abstract games with a little bit of luck thrown in.
