Way of the Panda
Way of the Panda review
Way of the Panda is a worker placement game that really caught my attention. I'm a sucker for games with unique mechanics and this one delivers. The worker placement system is refreshing, with a focus on limited actions and strategic choices. You're not just placing your worker and getting an action, you're making calculated moves to maximize your gains. It's not your typical Euro game, it's a brain burner that requires careful planning and a good dose of strategy.
The game's theme, while not perfect, adds an element of charm and a visual appeal that I appreciate. The miniatures are detailed and well-made (though some might require painting). I especially enjoyed the variety of characters and the way the game integrates training and combat into the overall gameplay. While some might find the game's theme a bit problematic, it's something that ultimately didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. I'm more interested in the mechanics and the strategic challenge.
One thing to consider is that Way of the Panda is not a quick filler game. It takes a bit of time to set up and play, and even longer to pack away. It's a game best suited for longer game nights with a group of 3 or more players. While it can be played with two, it's not as enjoyable.
Overall, Way of the Panda is a game that I highly recommend. It's a complex and engaging game that provides a unique and satisfying experience. The combination of worker placement, strategic decision-making, and combat makes for a very rewarding game. It's a bit pricey but worth every dime if you're looking for a game that will challenge your mind and provide hours of entertainment.
