Steam Time
Steam Time review
Steam Time is a game that I find myself going back to again and again. It's a worker placement game with a steampunk time travel theme, and while the theme isn't deeply integrated into the mechanics, it adds a nice touch to the overall experience.
The game's strength lies in its clever design and variety of strategies. Each turn, you'll have to decide how to best utilize your limited resources and actions to gain points and advance your position. The "stream of time" mechanic, where the action space strips shift with each round, keeps things constantly changing and forces players to adapt.
While the learning curve is a bit steep initially, once you grasp the basics, it's a satisfying game that offers a good balance of strategy and quick play. I've enjoyed playing it with 2 players, and from what I've read, it scales well to higher player counts as well.
I particularly appreciate the quality of the components. The game board is modular, the airship pieces are nicely designed, and the crystals are a fun addition. I've heard some people complain about the setup time, but I personally don't mind it. It's a good way to get into the mood for a game.
Overall, I would recommend Steam Time to anyone who enjoys worker placement games with a bit of a Euro style. It's a well-designed game with plenty of replayability, and the steampunk theme adds a touch of charm.
