Quarriors! review

Quarriors! is a game that I’ve been meaning to try for a while now, and finally got around to picking it up. It’s a dice-building game, which is a concept that always appeals to me, and it's similar to other deck-building games like Dominion, but uses dice instead of cards. I was a little hesitant to spend this much on a single board game, but I was won over by the fast-paced action and strategic depth. The game is easy to learn, with most people picking it up within a single game, and games can go as quickly as 15 minutes once everyone knows what they're doing. I especially appreciate that it functions well as a 3-player game, unlike some other games in this genre.

The quality of the components is generally good, with sturdy dice bags and well-balanced dice. However, I did encounter some quality control issues with a few dice having paint defects. This is a bit of a bummer, but it doesn’t impact the gameplay too much. The box is also quite large, which is great for storing expansions but a bit of a pain if you’re short on space. The instruction manual can be a little confusing at times, and some people recommend watching a how-to video before jumping in.

While the game is a lot of fun and offers a lot of replay value, it does have some downsides. The scoring mechanic can be a bit frustrating, as players with an early lead can be difficult to catch up to. The luck of the dice also plays a significant role, which can sometimes feel unfair.

Overall, Quarriors! is a fun and engaging game that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys deck-building games or dice-rolling games. The game is fast-paced, strategic, and has a lot of replay value. However, be aware that the luck of the dice can play a significant role, and the scoring mechanic can be a bit frustrating. If you're looking for a game with a lot of strategy, this might not be the best choice. But if you're looking for a fun and quick game that's easy to learn, Quarriors! is a great option.
