Patchwork Express
Patchwork Express review
I've been a fan of Patchwork for a while now, and when I saw this "Express" version, I was intrigued. It's a smaller, faster version of the original, with larger and simpler pieces. It’s definitely true that it plays much faster, usually clocking in at around 30 minutes. It's easy to learn, which makes it perfect for casual gamers or for introducing the game to younger players. My 12-year-old loved it, and it was a great way to engage his geometry skills!
The game is still strategic, and you can definitely get competitive if you want to. I think the smaller board and simpler pieces make it a little easier to get a negative score, which is something that has never happened to me in the original Patchwork. But even with the potential for negative scores, the game is still a lot of fun.
One thing I do like is that you can play this game with only two players. I've been able to play with my husband, and he's really enjoyed it. He’s not a huge board game fan, but he really enjoys the strategy and the quick gameplay. It's great for a quick game before bed or during a break.
Overall, I think Patchwork Express is a great option if you're looking for a fast and fun game for two players. If you're already a Patchwork fan, you'll definitely want to check this one out. If you're looking for a game for a younger audience, I think this one is perfect. The pieces are large and easy to handle, and the rules are simple enough for even younger players to learn. My experience with this game has only made me more eager to try the full-sized Patchwork now!
