Patchwork Doodle
Patchwork Doodle review
Patchwork Doodle is a fun roll-and-write game that brings the classic Patchwork experience to a new format, making it a great choice for larger groups! It's easy to learn and teach, and the simple gameplay makes it perfect for casual gamers or anyone who wants a quick and enjoyable experience.
The game plays out over a series of rounds where players draw polyomino shapes based on card draws and fill them into their 9x9 grid. Each player gets their own unique starting shape, and then the game unfolds with a bit of luck as the rabbit moves around a circle of cards. The scoring system is a bit more complex than just filling in the grid, and there are some interesting strategic choices to be made with the four special actions each player gets. It's not too complicated, but it adds a nice layer of depth to the game.
While I personally would have preferred a more robust scoring system, the simplicity of the game does make it very accessible to people who are new to strategy games. The artwork is colorful and fun, and the fact that you can use your own colored pencils adds a personal touch to the experience.
My only real complaint is that the game doesn't come with a lot of sheets of graph paper, and they are also not easy to replace. This isn't a big deal if you are willing to use your own paper, but I think it's a bit of a shame that the game doesn't come with more. If you're a fan of the original Patchwork, or if you just like roll-and-write games in general, then Patchwork Doodle is a great choice. It's a fun, engaging game that I recommend to anyone who enjoys a good dose of strategy and creativity.
