Historia
Historia review
Historia is a bold attempt to cram 12,000 years of human history into a single board game. It's a big ask, and while the concept is ambitious, I found the execution a little rough around the edges.
The game mechanics are centered around guiding your civilization through historical milestones, from the discovery of fire to the singularity. You'll be discovering new technology, expanding your territory, trading with your neighbors, and even waging war. All of this is done using a set of action cards, which is a clever system that keeps things moving.
However, I found the reliance on symbols on the board and cards a bit confusing. Some are explained clearly, but others are a bit of a mystery, even after digging through the rule book. This made it hard to truly understand the game's nuances.
Another drawback for me was the small, uninspired game map. It lacked the visual flair I'd expect from a game covering such a vast scope of history.
As for the solo variant, I didn't find it very engaging. The A.I. bots felt rather simplistic, and the overall experience lacked the strategic depth I crave in a solo game.
Overall, Historia is an interesting concept, but the execution falls short. If you're a fan of civilization games and don't mind a bit of ambiguity, it might be worth a look. However, if you're looking for a deeply immersive and well-polished historical experience, you might want to look elsewhere.
