Dominant Species review

Dominant Species is a game that, for me, really hits the sweet spot between complexity and reward. It's definitely not for the casual gamer - this is a game that demands your full attention and strategic thinking. Each turn, you're juggling a multitude of factors: land values, element abundance, species placement, dominance cards... it's a lot to keep track of!

But that's what makes it so rewarding. The feeling of pulling off a clever maneuver or outmaneuvering your opponents is truly satisfying. It's a game where every decision matters, and you're constantly adapting your strategy to the ever-changing landscape.

Some people find the complexity overwhelming, and I can see why. The learning curve is steep, and the game can take a long time to play. It's definitely a game that requires patience and a willingness to learn the rules. But if you're up for the challenge, it's a truly rewarding experience.

For me, the game's theme is brilliant. The struggle for dominance in a changing world is compelling and engaging. The components are high quality, and the game is visually appealing. It's also a game that scales well, playing well with 2 players and even better with 4-6 players.

I'd say that if you're a fan of heavy strategy games like Terra Mystica or Tzolk'in, you'll probably love Dominant Species. It's a game that requires commitment, but it's also a game that will keep you coming back for more.
