Nations
Nations review
Nations is a game that invites you to guide your chosen nation from the dawn of civilization to the eve of World War I. You'll engage in card drafting, worker placement, and resource management to build a thriving nation, competing against other players for victory points.
It's a game I found both engaging and challenging. I loved the depth of the strategy involved and the sense of building a nation, even if it was a bit abstracted. The historical themes, while not historically accurate, were still fun and led to some interesting conversations.
I've played both solo and with others. The solo mode is surprisingly well-designed and enjoyable, with a die roll mechanic that adds an element of chance. Multiplayer is where it really shines, though. The competition is fierce, but also fun. It's a game that requires you to adapt and adjust your plans as new events and cards are revealed.
The game's pace can be a bit slow, especially with new players. I found myself referring to the rule book a lot at first, but it's a game that gets easier with each play. And while the artwork on the cards isn't as stunning as the box, it still adds to the overall experience.
Overall, Nations is a fantastic game that I highly recommend. It's a great choice for anyone who enjoys civilization-building games with a good dose of strategic depth. Just be prepared to spend some time with the rulebook before diving in!
