Flotilla
Flotilla review
Flotilla is a compelling game that has captured my imagination. The theme, set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity clings to survival on a massive flotilla, is incredibly engaging. The game mechanics, however, are where Flotilla truly shines.
I love the dynamic interplay between the "Sinkside" and "Skyside" modes. The decision to transition from exploring the ocean depths for resources to building up the flotilla itself is a fascinating strategic choice. I appreciate that both sides of the game use the same components but with entirely different functions, making it feel like two games in one.
The production quality of Flotilla is impressive. The skiffs are beautifully sculpted and can actually hold up to four resource barrels. The artifact tokens fit perfectly into their designated spaces on the hub board. The art on the ocean tiles is consistently evocative and brings the world to life.
However, I do echo the sentiment of one reviewer who experienced a missing token. While the game is otherwise top-notch, missing components can be a huge frustration. It's a shame to have such a well-designed game marred by a potential quality control issue.
Overall, Flotilla is a deeply rewarding game with a unique theme, engaging mechanics, and beautiful components. It's a shame about the potential QC issues, but if you can find a complete copy, you're in for a treat. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys strategic, thematic games with a touch of complexity.
