Fighting Formations: Grossdeutschland Motorized Infantry Division review

Fighting Formations: Grossdeutschland Motorized Infantry Division is a unique and interesting game that takes a different approach to tactical-scale wargaming. The turn system is unlike any I've seen before, with the initiative pawn determining the active player and the cost of giving orders based on the unit and the order itself. The command and control system really adds a new dimension to the game, and it's pretty challenging to achieve a hit, but the damage inflicted when you do can be devastating.

I was excited to try this game out because the designer is also behind the Combat Commander series, which I really enjoy. The mechanics in this game are innovative and well-thought out, but I do agree with another reviewer that the game can feel a little bit nit-picky with all the die rolls. It's still a great game, and I prefer it to older games like Panzer Blitz, but it doesn't quite have the same flow as Combat Commander.

Overall, I think this is a great game for anyone interested in tactical-scale wargaming, especially if you're looking for something with unique mechanics. The rules are clear and well-written, the components are high-quality, and the game comes with plenty of player aids and examples of play. If you're a beginner to wargames, this game might be a little overwhelming, but it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a challenge.
