Whistle Stop
Whistle Stop review
Whistle Stop is a fantastic, pick-up-and-deliver style train game that I’ve been wanting to try for some time now. I was super excited to finally get it to the table and have a few plays. The game’s core mechanics are very straightforward: spend coal to move your trains, pick up goods, and deliver them for points. However, it’s the choices that you have to make that really shine!
Do you turn in your goods to buy stocks and get points? Or, do you save them for a big pay day on the other side of the board? Maybe you’ll want to rush across the board and put the pressure on your opponents to finish as well. Perhaps you’ll want to funnel all of your trains through a gold mine to get points every time. These are just some of the decisions that you have to make during Whistle Stop, and they're all delicious choices!
All in all, this game is relatively quick to learn but to master the strategies of this game will take a few play throughs. I really enjoy the tile placement mechanic and the way that the board is constructed each game. It's really a great game to play with 4 or 5 players, but even with just 2 it's a lot of fun!
I think Whistle Stop is a great game for experienced gamers who are looking for a medium weight game with a lot of replayability. I definitely recommend it!
