War of the Worlds: The New Wave
War of the Worlds: The New Wave review
I've been a fan of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds since I was a kid, so I was thrilled to see this game come out. It's a two-player asymmetrical deck-building game where one player controls the Martian invaders and the other controls the British forces. The game is pretty thematic, and I really like the way the two sides are balanced. The Martians are stronger, but the humans have better movement and defensive abilities. This makes for a really interesting power struggle, and I find myself playing differently depending on which side I'm on. The game is fast-paced and engaging, and I often find myself on the edge of my seat trying to pull off a last-minute victory. The art is fantastic, and the components are high quality. I've had a few close calls with my friends, and it's always an exciting game to play. However, I do have to mention a few problems I've encountered. The game is a bit unbalanced, with one side seeming to have an easier path to victory than the other. It's not a huge deal, but it can be frustrating. Also, the instructions could be a bit clearer, and I had to look up a few rules online. I did read a few reviews about missing parts and I'm a little concerned about that. But overall, I'd highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys sci-fi or deck-building games. It's a lot of fun!
