The Rise of Queensdale
The Rise of Queensdale review
The Rise of Queensdale is a legacy-style board game where you build your own city in a valley of the same name, collecting resources and building structures to become the most powerful lord. This is a game for 2-4 players, and I found it to be best enjoyed with a full group.
I personally enjoyed the game's campaign-style format. The first few sessions teach you the basics, and then the game really opens up with unique events and challenges that evolve over time. I especially loved the final session, which felt satisfying in its conclusion.
While the game does include some catch-up mechanics, I found that these weren't as effective as I'd hoped. One player in our group fell behind for the entire game and couldn't quite catch up. This is a problem that can be solved by adjusting strategy, but it was something to keep in mind.
Overall, I found The Rise of Queensdale to be a solid, well-constructed legacy game that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the genre. However, if you're looking for a co-op game, you might want to look elsewhere. The Rise of Queensdale is definitely competitive and will be a challenging game for anyone who wants to play it seriously.
