KeyForge: Age of Ascension
KeyForge: Age of Ascension review
I've been a fan of Richard Garfield's work since Magic: The Gathering, so I was naturally curious about KeyForge: Age of Ascension. This expansion of the Unique Deck Game caught my eye, and I'm glad I took the plunge.
The two-player starter set provides everything you need to get going: two unique Archon Decks, a Quickstart Rulebook, two Poster Playmats, and all the necessary tokens and keys. I particularly appreciated the playmats, which are a nice touch and helpful for keeping everything organized. The quality of the tokens is also surprisingly good, especially compared to some other card games.
The game itself is fast-paced and engaging. I love the concept of having unique, pre-made decks, which adds a sense of mystery and excitement to each game. The House-selection mechanic is clever and makes for interesting strategic decisions. I've found the game to be quite balanced overall, despite some reviewers expressing concerns about deck power discrepancies. I'm excited to see how the game evolves and how new decks will be integrated into the pool.
While some reviewers have mentioned issues with card quality, I haven't experienced any problems with the cards in my starter set. The artwork is stunning, and the overall design of the cards is well-executed. The only slight downside is that the chain tracker is a bit flimsy, but it's a minor inconvenience.
If you're looking for a fun, strategic card game with a unique twist, KeyForge: Age of Ascension is definitely worth checking out. It's a great game for two players and offers plenty of replayability. The starter set is an excellent value for the money and provides all the tools you need to dive right in.
