Hoplomachus: Victorum Review
As a fan of the original Hoplomachus games, I was incredibly excited for the release of Victorum. The promise of a solo campaign experience utilizing the acclaimed combat system, paired with a new focus on heroes and an expanded lore, sounded like a winning combination. And I'm happy to report that it absolutely delivers on that promise.
Victorum throws you into a world on the brink of disaster. The looming threat of Vesuvius' eruption coupled with the wrath of Pluto, god of the underworld, creates a truly captivating and tense atmosphere. The campaign structure unfolds organically, offering a sense of progression and reward as you complete each grueling task.
The combat system remains a highlight. It's deceptively simple yet incredibly strategic, requiring careful planning and execution to overcome your opponents. The addition of heroes adds another layer of depth, allowing you to customize your gameplay and adapt your tactics to your chosen champions. The new lore and art are beautifully implemented, immersing you further into the world of Victorum.
While I found Victorum incredibly engaging, it's worth noting that the solo play experience is its core focus. If you're looking for a game to play with friends, this may not be the best fit. However, if you're looking for a challenging, rewarding, and deeply immersive solo adventure, Hoplomachus: Victorum is a must-have.
