GKR: Heavy Hitters review

GKR: Heavy Hitters is a unique board game set in a future where corporations fight for control of Earth's abandoned cities using giant killer robots. I was immediately drawn to the game's theme and the impressive miniatures, which are crafted by Weta Workshop, the same company responsible for the special effects in Lord of the Rings. The game is fast-paced and fun, with a surprising amount of depth for its relatively simple rules. I especially enjoyed the strategic element of choosing the right weapons and support units for each battle. The combat system is engaging and there are lots of cool "gotcha" moments where the outcome of a roll can completely turn the tide of battle.

The components are high quality, with the exception of the cardboard buildings, which some reviewers have found to be a bit flimsy. I do agree that the cardboard buildings could be a bit more durable for the price, but they haven't been a major issue for me. I love the variety of ways to win the game and the two-sided board adds a nice layer of replayability. The game can be played solo, but it is definitely more fun with 2-4 players.

Overall, I would definitely recommend GKR: Heavy Hitters to anyone who enjoys strategic board games with a fun, over-the-top theme. It's a great game for both experienced and inexperienced skirmish/war-gamers. Just be prepared for a hefty price tag, as it's not a cheap game.
