Catacombs (Third Edition)
Catacombs (Third Edition) review
Catacombs (Third Edition) is a game I've been wanting to try for a while now, and I finally got my hands on it. I have to say, I'm really impressed! It's a unique blend of dexterity and dungeon crawling, and it's a lot of fun.
The game is set in the fantasy world of Cimathue, and you play as one of six brave heroes who are trying to save the town of Stormtryne from the threat lurking in the catacombs below. You use your abilities, buy items, and recruit allies to help you defeat the monsters before facing the powerful Catacomb Lord.
One of the things I really love about this game is the disc-flicking mechanic. It's a lot more satisfying than rolling dice, and it adds a whole new level of strategy to the game. You have to be careful about how you flick your discs, as you can easily knock them off the board or into a wall. But when you hit a monster with an ice missile and put a "frozen" disc on top of it, it's a real feeling of accomplishment.
The game is also pretty challenging, which I appreciate. It's not always easy to defeat the monsters, and you have to work together as a team to succeed. If you're looking for a fun, challenging, and cooperative board game, I highly recommend checking out Catacombs (Third Edition).
However, there are a couple of things that I want to point out. First, the stickers are a bit of a pain. You have to apply them to all of the wooden discs, which can take a while. Second, the rules can be a little confusing at first. There are a lot of little exceptions, and you'll probably have to refer to the rulebook a few times during your first few plays.
Overall, though, I think this is a great game, and I'm looking forward to playing it many more times. I've definitely got the bug for flicking games now!
