Raptor
Raptor review
I was excited to try out Raptor, a card-driven board game where one player controls scientists trying to capture baby raptors, while the other player controls the mama raptor trying to protect them. The concept is very clever and the game has a surprisingly good amount of depth for being a two-player game. The scientists have unique movements and abilities, such as using fire and jeeps, and the raptors are more aggressive with the ability to eat scientists and hide in the bushes. I really enjoy how both sides have very different play styles, and the game isn’t just about out-maneuvering your opponent, but also about understanding what your opponent is trying to do and anticipating their moves.
I did find the rules a little confusing at first, especially regarding the Mama Raptor’s abilities and how fire actually works. I also found the game can feel a bit unbalanced at times, with the scientists sometimes seeming to have an edge. However, after a few plays, I started to get the hang of things and found that both sides can win if you play strategically.
Overall, Raptor is a fun and engaging game that I recommend to anyone looking for a quick and satisfying two-player experience. The asymmetrical gameplay, strategic depth, and charming theme make it a great addition to any board game collection.
