Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game – Season One
Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game – Season One review
I've been a fan of the original Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game for a while now, and when I saw Season One come out, I was excited to check it out. It's a standalone game with three shorter cases, designed for a more casual game night. While it's definitely a streamlined version of the original, I still had a lot of fun with it.
The cases in Season One are all well-written and engaging, and they each offer a unique setting and challenge. I especially enjoyed "Blood, Ink, and Tears," which felt like a classic Agatha Christie mystery. The game mechanics are easy to learn, and the cases are just the right length for a single evening. I do think the cases could be a little longer, as some reviewers have also pointed out. I found myself wishing for just a bit more time to explore the clues and piece together the puzzle. I also missed the character skills and authority tokens from the original game, as those added a layer of strategy that I enjoyed.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I still highly recommend Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game – Season One. It's a great choice for anyone who enjoys mystery games, and it's a fantastic introduction to the Detective universe. If you're looking for a more substantial and challenging experience, I'd still recommend the original game. But if you're looking for a fun and engaging game night, Season One is a great option.
