Cat in the box
Cat in the box review
Cat in the Box is a trick-taking card game that's surprisingly unique and engaging. I'm not usually a fan of trick-taking games, but this one really caught my attention. The core gameplay is pretty familiar - you're bidding on how many tricks you'll take, and then trying to win them. But the twist comes in with the "quantum" element - you don't know the color of your cards until you play them! This adds a whole new layer of strategy and tension to the game, as you have to balance trying to win tricks with making sure you don't accidentally create a paradox (which basically means you get stuck with a card you can't play, ending the round and costing you points).
I found this mechanic to be really clever and fun. It adds a lot of unpredictability to the game, and it definitely keeps you on your toes. I also really appreciate that it's a relatively quick game, which makes it perfect for casual play. The components are also great - the cards are well-made, and the art is really cute. And the game box is a great size, it's not bulky but still has room for everything.
My only gripe is that the rulebook can be a little confusing. It takes a bit of time to fully grasp all the nuances of the game, and I had to watch a couple of videos to get a better understanding of the rules. But once you do figure it out, it's a really fun and rewarding game.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend Cat in the Box to anyone looking for a unique and engaging trick-taking game. It's a great choice for both casual and experienced gamers. I've already played it several times with my friends and family, and it's always a hit.
