Battles of Westeros
Battles of Westeros review
Battles of Westeros is a fantastic two-player wargame that puts you right in the middle of the epic battles from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. I've been a huge fan of the books and TV show for years, and this game really captures the feel of those stories.
The game is set up as a series of scenarios, each with its own unique battlefield and victory conditions. You can choose to play as House Stark or House Lannister, and each house has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. The game is all about tactical maneuvering and making tough decisions on the battlefield.
One of the things I really like about Battles of Westeros is the depth of strategy. Every decision you make has a consequence, and you have to constantly be thinking ahead and planning your next move. The game also has a good amount of randomness, thanks to the use of dice and cards, which keeps things exciting and unpredictable.
I was a little intimidated by the number of rules at first, but they're actually fairly straightforward once you get the hang of them. The game also comes with a very helpful rulebook that walks you through everything step-by-step.
The miniatures are a real highlight of the game. They're very detailed and well-painted, and they really bring the battles to life. I also appreciate the fact that the game comes with everything you need to get started, including the board, miniatures, cards, and dice.
If you're a fan of wargames, or if you're just looking for a fun and challenging game to play with a friend, then I highly recommend Battles of Westeros. It's a great game that's sure to provide hours of entertainment.
A couple of minor downsides are that the miniatures do need to be glued to their bases, and the setup time can be a bit lengthy. But, overall, I think these are minor inconveniences that are outweighed by the great gameplay.
