Sunrise City
Sunrise City review
Sunrise City is a tile-laying game where players build a city, bid for control of zones, and place building tiles to score points. The game revolves around earning "benchmark tokens" by strategically scoring points to land on the star at the top of your score track.
I was drawn to this game because I love city-building games, and the unique focus on maximizing benchmark tokens, rather than just a race to the highest score, intrigued me. While the gameplay might not be groundbreaking, it offers a fun and engaging experience that I've enjoyed playing with both friends and family.
I was particularly impressed by the quality of the components, with thick, durable tiles that make the game feel substantial. The weight of the box alone speaks to the quality of the materials. While the artwork might not be everyone's cup of tea, I found it grew on me, and it's a minor point compared to the overall experience.
One aspect I truly appreciate is the game's replayability. The ever-changing city landscape created by tile placement and the variety of role cards, each offering unique abilities, keeps things fresh and unpredictable.
While it's a great game for a group, I think it might be a little too complex for very young children. But for anyone with a passion for city-building games or those looking for a strategic and enjoyable game night experience, Sunrise City is a solid choice.
