Spyrium
Spyrium review
Spyrium is a game that has a lot going for it. It's a worker placement game set in a steampunk world, with a cool little green crystal called "Spyrium" that revolutionizes industry and technology. The goal is to build factories, hire workers, and acquire Spyrium in order to become the biggest industrial tycoon in England.
I'm a big fan of worker placement games, and I really enjoy the choices that have to be made in Spyrium. There are a lot of different paths to victory, and the game is full of strategic decisions. For example, do you focus on gathering Spyrium, or do you prioritize acquiring buildings that will give you more workers or money? The marketplace is also very interesting and changes each game, leading to new and exciting challenges.
Some people have criticized Spyrium for being a bit dry or for not having enough of a thematic tie-in to the steampunk theme. I agree that the theme could be more prominent, but I still found the game to be engaging and fun. I also found the rulebook to be a little dense and confusing, but there are plenty of tutorials available online. The game is also relatively quick to play, which is always a plus.
Overall, I think Spyrium is a great game that is worth checking out. It's a great choice for fans of worker placement games, and it's also a good gateway game for people who are new to the genre. I give Spyrium a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
