Space Base
Space Base review
Space Base is a surprisingly strategic dice game that I've really enjoyed. I was initially drawn to it because it's quick to learn and play, and it's true - I was able to teach my family how to play in the first couple of rounds. However, what surprised me was how much depth there was to the strategy involved.
The core gameplay is simple: you roll dice, and use the results to activate different sectors on your player board, earning resources, victory points, or special abilities. What really makes this game interesting are the ship cards you can purchase. These cards not only provide bonuses based on their numbers, but also often have additional effects that trigger on other players' turns, creating a really satisfying engine-building dynamic.
I've found that Space Base is best enjoyed with 2-3 players, as the game can get a little long with more people. However, it scales well and remains engaging at any player count. One thing I really appreciate about this game is that there's almost no downtime. Even when it's not your turn, you're still getting resources and points based on the dice rolls of other players.
Overall, Space Base is a game I highly recommend. It's a perfect blend of lighthearted dice rolling and strategic decision-making. It's easy to learn, but has enough depth to keep you coming back for more. The only small negative I have is that some of the card abilities are a bit confusing, so it helps to have the rulebook handy for reference, especially at first.
