Rent a Hero
Rent a Hero review
Rent a Hero is a light, strategic card game that I find myself reaching for whenever I need a quick and fun filler game. The premise is simple: collect six out of seven unique heroes to win. You do this by strategically passing cards face down to other players who can either accept or pass on the hero. The trick is to anticipate what heroes others might need, and use the round limitations to your advantage.
The game's core mechanic of set collection, combined with the element of bluffing, makes for a surprisingly engaging experience. It's easy to learn, with clear rules and a straightforward goal, making it perfect for casual gamers or families. Even though the game is simple, there's a surprising amount of strategy involved, especially in the late game where you have to carefully manage your hand and predict your opponents' moves.
I find myself enjoying Rent a Hero most with a group of players who are all on the same page, but it can also be fun with a more casual group. It's a great game for filling a short gap in game night, or for playing with a group of people who might not be into heavier games. I definitely recommend it to fans of other quick card games like Love Letter, and even though I'm an avid board gamer with a large collection, I'm always happy to pull out Rent a Hero for a fun and engaging game night.
