Ragnarocks
Ragnarocks review
Ragnarocks is a fun and engaging area control game that combines elements of chess, Go, and Santorini. It's a very straightforward game to learn, with rules that can be picked up in just a few minutes. The core mechanic is simple: move your Viking, place a runestone, and try to enclose large areas for points. The game is a lot of fun to play, even without the advanced mode, but adding the different deities and their powers really adds another layer of depth and strategy.
The game has a great tactile feel with its plastic tree trunk board and miniature Vikings and runestones. The art is great and there are dozens of different mythology cards featuring all the famous Norse figures. You can see how Thor does against Loki, or see if the Serpent of Midgard can defeat Hel. It's very cool.
The advanced mode adds a lot of replayability and variety to the game. I really appreciate that the game has a challenging solo mode, which is a nice addition for those who like to play solo games.
I'd say the game is more geared toward 2 players, as the 3-6 player team mode is not very well described or explained in the reviews. It's a shame because this seems like a game that would be a lot of fun to play with a group of friends.
Overall, I highly recommend Ragnarocks. It's a great game for anyone who enjoys strategy games with a bit of a fantasy flair.
