Giants
Giants review
Giants is a captivating board game that immerses players in the fascinating world of Easter Island during its Golden Age. As clan leaders, you compete to build and transport the most impressive Moai sculptures, earning prestige for your achievements. The game's core mechanics involve resource management, worker placement, and a pick-up-and-deliver system, making it a challenging and rewarding experience.
The game board represents a simplified map of Easter Island, where you strategically place your workers to sculpt Moai, transport them using paths and logs, and claim the best locations for your statues. I particularly enjoyed the use of Tribal Markers and the Sorcerer's powers, adding strategic layers to the game. While some components are smaller and might require extra care, the overall quality of the game is excellent.
Despite the game's heavier nature, I find it much more engaging than traditional games like Risk or Monopoly. It's a game that demands strategic thinking and planning, but the rewards are substantial. My only minor gripe is that the Moai headdresses can be a bit fiddly and prone to falling off. However, this is a minor inconvenience that doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
Giants is a standout game for anyone who appreciates strategy, history, and unique themes. The beautifully crafted components, along with the engaging gameplay, make it a true standout in the board game world.
