Firefly Adventures: Brigands and Browncoats
Firefly Adventures: Brigands and Browncoats review
Firefly: Adventures: Brigands and Browncoats is a fun skirmish-level miniatures game that captures the spirit of the show. The two different poses for each crew member, Casual and Heroic, add a unique twist to the gameplay and really make you feel like you're in the Firefly universe.
I was a little concerned about the rulebook based on some of the reviews I read, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There are definitely some typos, and it could be a little more clear in places, but overall it's not a deal breaker. I found myself having to refer to the BoardGameGeek website for clarification on a few things, but that's not unusual for a more complex board game.
My biggest complaint about the game is the lack of missions. There are only four included in the base game, and while the expansion packs add more, I wish there had been more to start with. The game is definitely replayable, but the limited number of missions does make it feel a little repetitive after a while. I'm hoping that GF9 releases more scenarios in the future.
Despite these shortcomings, I still really enjoy this game. The gameplay is engaging and thematic, and I love the miniatures and the cardboard terrain. It's a great way to experience the world of Firefly in a more hands-on way. If you're a fan of the show and you're looking for a fun skirmish game, I would definitely recommend checking this one out.
