Colosseum
Colosseum review
Colosseum is a game that takes you back to ancient Rome, where you're a Roman impresario trying to put on the greatest spectacles in your arena. The game's theme is really well done, and the production values are top-notch. You'll be building your own Colosseum, hiring performers, and attracting the Emperor and his nobles. It's a very strategic game, with lots of auctioning and trading, making it very interactive.
The game mechanics are simple to learn, but there's a lot of depth to the strategy involved. You have to plan ahead and think carefully about your investments and which events you want to put on. It's definitely a game that gets your competitive juices flowing!
However, while the gameplay is great, I was a little disappointed with the reprint. The original Days of Wonder edition had amazing production quality, and the new reprint feels a little cheap in comparison. The artwork is a little cartoonish, and the board feels smaller. I'm also not a huge fan of the new blocks for the Colosseum upgrades.
But despite the reprint's flaws, the game itself is a classic for a reason. If you're a fan of Euro-style board games, Colosseum is a must-play. It's a fun, challenging, and engaging experience that will leave you wanting more.
