Civilization: A New Dawn review

Civilization: A New Dawn is a board game that brings the classic Civilization video game experience to the tabletop. It's a strategy game for 2-4 players where you act as the ruler of a historical empire, expanding your territory, acquiring technologies, and building wonders. The game's setup involves creating a unique map from beautifully illustrated tiles, which ensures that each playthrough is different. You then choose your civilization leader, each with unique abilities, and strive to achieve victory through one of several randomly selected victory conditions.

The game has a lot going for it. I found it very engaging and fun, with a lot of strategic depth. There are tons of choices to make, and the game keeps you on your toes, constantly thinking about your next move. I really liked the map creation element, which gives the game endless replayability.

However, the game has some downsides. The setup can be lengthy, taking about 15 minutes, and there are a lot of pieces and tokens, which can be a bit overwhelming. Additionally, the rulebook is a bit complex and takes some time to learn.

Overall, I really enjoyed Civilization: A New Dawn. If you're a fan of the video game series, you'll definitely want to check this out. It's a solid strategy board game that offers a unique experience. Just be prepared to invest some time learning the rules and setting it up.
