Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – The Force Awakens Core Set review

I recently picked up the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – The Force Awakens Core Set, and I have to say, I'm impressed. As someone who's enjoyed the original X-Wing core set for years, I was curious to see how the new core set stacked up.

First off, the new ships are gorgeous. The TIE/fo fighter is a solid addition, and the T-70 X-wing, with its extra shields and maneuver options, is a fantastic choice. It's great to have the "new" ships from the Force Awakens era, even if they don't drastically change the existing game dynamics.

The addition of the rulebook is a huge improvement over the old reference cards. Having everything in one place is a real time-saver and makes the game feel much more streamlined. And let's not forget the duplicate movement templates and range rulers – a godsend for speeding up the planning phase.

While the core set only comes with three ships, it's a great starting point. The new core set offers a good value proposition, with two TIE/fo fighters and a T-70 X-wing. This is enough to get you and a friend playing right away and will give you a good feel for the game's mechanics.

If you're a Star Wars fan and looking to get into the world of miniature wargaming, this core set is a great place to start. The game is fast-paced and engaging, and the miniatures are beautifully detailed. The only downside is that expanding your fleet can get expensive quickly, but that's the nature of the beast with most miniature games. Overall, I highly recommend this core set to anyone looking for a fun, thematic, and relatively accessible miniatures game.
