New England review

New England is a delightful strategy game that captures the excitement of 17th-century land acquisition. The core mechanic of bidding and tile placement is engaging, and the thematic elements, like developing land and acquiring pilgrims, barns, and ships, create a fun and immersive experience. I found myself captivated by the challenge of strategically acquiring the most valuable land tiles and development cards, while keeping an eye on my score.

One thing I particularly enjoyed was the pacing of the game. The rules are easy to grasp, and the setup is quick, which makes it perfect for a casual gaming session. A game typically lasts under an hour, making it ideal for families or a group of friends. The game also offers a good level of complexity, with enough depth to keep experienced players engaged.

The development cards add a layer of strategy and create interesting choices, such as whether to invest in pilgrims for quick shillings or focus on developing land for more significant victory points. The game also provides an element of luck in the bidding process, but it's not so overwhelming that it detracts from the strategic nature of the game.

I even managed to introduce my 6-year-old to the game, and with a little help, they had a blast. The game design is excellent, the rules are straightforward, and the components are well-made. New England is a fantastic choice for families or groups looking for a fun, engaging, and strategically rewarding game.
