Mogul
Mogul review
Mogul is a fast-paced, engaging auction game that captures the excitement (and risk) of the 1920s stock market. The core gameplay is simple: players bid on stock cards using chips, and the winner gets to either buy the card or sell stock of the same color. The second-place player gets the opposite option. This dynamic, coupled with the "Take That!" aspect of bidding, keeps things interesting.
I found the game to be very enjoyable, even though the rules weren't immediately clear. Thankfully, The Dice Tower review clarified things. I appreciate the quick turns and minimal downtime. The market crash mechanic adds a layer of tension as you constantly weigh the risk of holding onto stocks versus building up your train station network.
The game's components are well-made, and the theme, though light, adds a fun layer to the gameplay. However, I did have a minor quibble with the small, wooden bidding chips. They are a little too light, which makes it easy for them to get lost or blown away. I personally prefer metal coins for bidding, which I think would add a nice touch of elegance to the game.
Overall, Mogul is a fun and engaging game that I would definitely recommend. It's a great choice for players who enjoy bidding and stock market games with a touch of risk.
