Enemy Action: Ardennes
Enemy Action: Ardennes review
Enemy Action: Ardennes is a complex card-driven war game that simulates the Battle of the Bulge. It's actually three games in one: a two-player game, a solo game playing as the Allies, and a solo game playing as the Germans. I personally found the solo game experience to be very engaging, and I really appreciated the card-driven system, which adds a lot of tension and decision-making to the gameplay. It felt very realistic, and I spent a lot of time learning about the historical context of the battle.
However, I have to admit, I'm not sure if I would recommend it to everyone. The game is definitely not for casual gamers. It's very complex and requires a significant investment of time to learn. It also has a very large footprint, so you'll need a dedicated table for it. Plus, the components are a bit flimsy for the price.
I also had a problem with the instruction books. The quality control on the physical copies seemed to be pretty poor. While the gameplay is very well-designed, I would have expected better quality components for the price.
Overall, Enemy Action: Ardennes is a great game if you are a wargaming enthusiast and are looking for a challenging and historically accurate game. However, if you are looking for something more casual or have a limited budget, you might want to look elsewhere.
