Dos Rios
Dos Rios review
Dos Rios is a fun and strategic game that I recently had the opportunity to play. The core concept of the game is simple: move your workers around the board, build houses, and be the first to complete your set of buildings. But the execution is where the game truly shines. The variable board setup, with hexes that form the river banks, creates a unique experience every time you play. The dynamic river system, which you can manipulate with dams, adds a layer of strategic depth that's both engaging and enjoyable.
I particularly enjoyed the way the game balances resource management, worker placement, and a bit of player interaction. You need to carefully manage your resources (money and lumber) to build your houses, while also positioning your workers to maximize your harvest each round. And the ability to dam the river allows you to influence your opponent's harvest, adding a strategic element of player interaction.
While the rules can take a bit of getting used to, especially with the river system, the game itself is quite approachable. It's a great game for two players, and works well with up to four. Although, I agree with other reviewers that four players can slow down the game considerably. I found the game to be engaging and fun, with a good balance of strategy and luck. The random board setup ensures that no two games are the same, making it highly replayable. If you're looking for a unique and strategic game, especially with a two-player focus, I would highly recommend giving Dos Rios a try. It's a game that rewards strategic thinking and offers a fun and engaging experience.
