Bardsung
Bardsung review
I recently had the pleasure of playing Bardsung, and it's a game that truly surprised me. The description makes it sound like another dungeon-crawler, but it has a unique charm and depth that sets it apart.
The procedural generation of the dungeon is really fantastic. Each playthrough is a new adventure, and the constant sense of discovery keeps things fresh. The tile-laying system is simple to learn but offers a surprising amount of strategic depth. You have to carefully consider your path, taking into account both loot and potential threats.
I particularly enjoyed the combat system. It's strategic and engaging, with a focus on positioning and teamwork. The dynamic marching order adds another layer of complexity, forcing you to be adaptable and anticipate your opponents' moves. And the fact that enemies can level up and evolve their attacks keeps things interesting.
The character progression system is also quite satisfying. You can either follow a predefined path or create your own unique hero, customizing their abilities and playstyle. It's a great way to tailor the game to your preferences.
Overall, Bardsung is a fantastic game. It's easy to learn, challenging to master, and endlessly replayable. The dungeon-crawling experience is immersive, and the storytelling elements add another layer of depth. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys cooperative games, solo adventures, or simply a well-designed and engaging board game experience.
